Stems came from a desire to elevate the tiny blooms of our world: the common wildflowers. Through the format of the mobile, the forms of wildflowers are preserved in ceramic clay, evoking the lightness that they normally have in our hand when experienced in the field. By scaling these blooms ten fold, their beauty and bold geometry is given a powerful voice.
Harkening back to the tradition of mandala making as an aid in meditation and mindfulness, my ceramic mandalas are made in the same spirit — hand cut, shaped, carved, and arranged carefully. Every mandala I create is improvised in the working stage as well as the final installation — making each piece totally unique.
Textural and kinetic, the Looms weave together porcelain to create dimensional abstractions of familiar forms such as mountains, fields, or waterfalls. Each ceramic piece is cut and formed by hand, fired, and hung from gorgeous cotton cord. The most magical part? The sound this artwork makes.
These dimensional, improvised arrangements of ceramic leaves create interest and movement in space. In certain arrangements, mosaics can evoke natural elements like wind and water.
